「ミリオン・ダラー・カルテット」は、当時アメリカ最大のスターであったエルヴィス・プレスリー、ジョニー・キャッシュ、ジェリー・リー・ルイス、カール・パーキンスというロックンロール・アイコンが初めて、そして唯一集結した有名な即興セッションを収録したもの。
ロックンロールはゴスペル、カントリー、ドゥーワップ、ブルース、ポップ、カウボーイの曲から生まれましたが、そのすべてがここで聴くことができます。本作には、"Rip It Up"、"Don't Forbid Me"、"Out of Sight, Out of Mind"といった当時の人気ナンバーに加え、エルヴィスの自作曲("Don't Be Cruel"、"Love Me Tender")、チャック・ベリーの"Brown-Eyed Handsome Man"や"Too Much Monkey Business"のカバー、そしてハンク・スノー、ファロン・ヤング、ジーン・オートリー、ビル・モンローが作曲したカントリーやブルーグラスのクラシック・チューンも収録。
